ABOUT
The Author

Kristen Reid is a magna cum laude graduate of Tennessee Tech University, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in English literature and the Humanities, and she is currently working on her master's in Curriculum and Instruction. She considers herself an avid enthusiast of Edgar Allan Poe and a self-proclaimed “vampirologist”, as she spent most of her undergraduate studies focusing on 19th century American Gothic literature and folklore.

She grew up writing from the very first moments that she could form her own stories and has kept this passion of writing her entire life, sticking with the creepy side of fiction. She is currently working on a monster novel and a dark fantasy novel along with putting together a collection of her short stories.

She is a nine-time published writer of fiction, having been published twice with Scare Street Publishing, The Sirens Call, Broadswords and Blasters, Springer Mountain Press, The Horror Tree, and twice in her alumni's literary magazine, The Iris Review. She also has three poems published with Anti-Heroin Chic and upcoming with BS Lit Magazine. Kristen placed 1st in the first round of the 2019 NYC Midnight Micro-Fiction Short Story Challenge Competition and was awarded an honorable mention in the 2nd round.

Her works are primarily weird westerns and folk horror with a southern gothic flare, some having just a touch of sci-fi. Her stories focus on the psychological makeup of her characters who are forced to grapple with their fears and preconceived ideas of death looming right outside their "safe" confines. She enjoys drafting stories that make the reader question who the "bad guy" is, as her favorite theme to employ is that every character either has a little bit of a "monster" in them or is the "monster" themselves.
